Una de las piezas más hermosas y más completas halladas en el sureste mexicano es la máscara de Calakmul, quien sigue manteniendo el enigma de la identidad del gobernante al que perteneció, ya que fue hecha para acompañarlo al inframundo.

La pieza tiene una antigüedad mayor a 1,200 años y es una de las piezas arqueológicas más icónicas en la historia de la cultura maya de una de las más grandes culturas prehispánicas de la civilización mesoamericana que destaca por su belleza y connotación sagrada.

Junto con las piezas de la indumentaria, la máscara complementa el ajuar funerario de un gobernante de la Dinastía Kaan, a quien pertenecía la Tumba 1 de la Estructura VII de la Zona Arqueológica de Calakmul.

La máscara está hecha de jade, piedra sagrada del dios del maíz, concha y obsidiana gris, que representan la vida, la muerte y la resurrección.

One of the most beautiful and complete pieces found in the Mexican southeast is the mask of Calakmul, who continues to maintain the enigma of the identity of the ruler to whom he belonged, since it was made to accompany him to the underworld.

The piece is more than 1,200 years old and is one of the most iconic archaeological pieces in the history of the Mayan culture of one of the greatest pre-Hispanic cultures of the Mesoamerican civilization that stands out for its beauty and sacred connotation.

Together with the pieces of clothing, the mask complements the funerary equipment of a ruler of the Kaan Dynasty, to whom Tomb 1 of Structure VII of the Calakmul Archaeological Zone belonged.
